KOKORO JOURNAL: Loneliness in the Modern Age

Updated: Mar 10, 2019

Write about your thoughts on this quote...in what ways, for example, does social media in our time perhaps isolate people as much as it connects people? Does it augment our egotism? Are we "together" but "alone"?

"Loneliness is the price we have to pay for being born in this modern age, so full of freedom, independence, and our own egotistical selves" (pg 30, Sensei)

There's always a repercussion to something good. Over time, social media has become a big part of society. It's a device used to give us the opportunity to relate with each other. This device is something that brings us together, having it be something we all can relate to, as much as it makes us feel alone. It gives us the ability to connect with another, yet has the ability to isolate us. It can diminish and augment our egotism, depending on whether it's beneficial. Social media is alluring and undesirable.
